Dear Blaine,
On your birthday, I am feeling so conflicted. I want you to stay little for as long as possible.
I often stop and wonder how this is all happening so fast. Sometimes, I wish I could just freeze things now before you get all grown up on me! While I love that you are growing up and maturing into a sweet girl, I also still want my baby girl to be just that—my “baby”.
I remember the day you were born with such fondness and joy. It was a sunny September day in Stamford, Connecticut. We went to the hospital early that morning on 9/28/10 not knowing if you were going to be a baby girl or a baby boy. All we knew was we would call you “Blaine”, which was a family name on your Dad’s side.
Hours later at the hospital, the doctors and Daddy finally told me that it’s a girl, and I WAS OVERJOYED. I always imagined myself as a mom of a girl, so you made that dream a reality. Plus, you also made our family complete! Our beautiful family of four.
We are so blessed with one healthy boy (Charlie) and one healthy girl (YOU aka “Boo”). You wanted to be held ALL the time when you were little. You sometimes still want that, and I hope you always want extra hugs and extra snuggle time with mommy.
You are growing up to be a beautiful, kind, happy, fun, friendly, athletic, smart, strong and loving girl. You make us all so proud! You said it best when you told your teacher the best thing about you is your big heart ❤.
What I love so much is that you love playing with your babies (American Girl dolls), but then you love playing your heart out at the hockey rink with a bunch of boys. You tell everyone you want to be a “mommy” when you grow up, and that warms my heart too.
Blaine, you make me a better person and you definitely make me a better mom. You make your Daddy a better dad too. And you make Charlie a better brother as well.
Keep shining bright because the world needs more of that! And you remind all of us that being KIND is truly the best way to be.
Happy 8th birthday, Blaine Burkham Clarke.
We all love you so much!
Love, Mom xoxo
