As a mom, I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the best way to support my kids. And I keep coming back to this same thought over and over: the most important gift we can give our kids is being there for them. They don’t need extravagant outings or fancy things; they need us — full stop.
Here are some simple tips to help all of us connect with our children because this has been on my mind so much recently.
Limit Distractions: Set aside your phone during family time. Make eye contact and really listen when your kids talk. Ask questions. Be curious, not judgmental.
Create Routines: Regular activities, like family meals, give your kids something to look forward to and strengthen bonds.
Engage in Their Interests: Join your kids in their favorite games or hobbies. This shows you care about what they like to do.
Be Mindful: Practice being fully present in the moment. Put aside your worries and focus on your child’s needs and feelings.
Celebrate Small Moments: Take time to appreciate the little things with them. These moments matter. It truly is about the little things!
My most recent Podcast episode #119 focuses on great parenting advice from an incredible resource — Dr. Lisa Damour.
